A ira do silêncio - The wrath of the silence

boca, eu não protestaria, eu jamais me
jamais pronunciaria o teu nome.

The wrath of the silence

If, in its fury, silence did not treat me with
such indifference, I would never protest
against its presence in my daily life.
No!
I would not be tormented by hearing, in the
middle of the night, the moans of longing
begging me to shout your name.
If, in its coldness, silence did not mistreat
my heart so much, I would stifle every cry
that escapes from my chest, and prevent
them from awakening the cries slumbering
in the throat of the night.
If the sadness of silence did not take root
in my heart, I would not protest so much
against what I believe to be loneliness.
If silence did not fall asleep on my
lips, if silence did not dry up my
mouth, I would not protest; I would never
oppose the darkness of the night where
silence dwells.
If the silent nights were not so
long and cold, if winter without your
presence were not so much like everything
that silence is, and if my lips did not
insist on calling your name, I would not
protest against life, which pushes me
against the wall whenever I think of weeping
over my sorrows.
If silence were not my only
comfort when anguish seizes my
heart, I would not be so afraid of the
screams that ring out amid my silence
and would scream along with them.
If, in its wrath, silence did not scream
at me, if it left me in peace,
I would never utter your name.
