Não bebo pelo simples prazer de beber,
bebo a saudade.
Bebo a saudade quando esta me aperta,
bebo o sorriso, quando este quer me
abandonar, e bebo o soluço quando
sinto vontade de chorar.
Não bebo pela necessidade de
satisfazer um vício.
Bebo buscando compreender as
Bebo buscando compreender as
explicações que nada explicam.
Bebo.
Bebo as evasivas que não
Bebo as evasivas que não
me convencem.
Bebo!
Bêbado assimilo com mais
facilidade as falsidades que percebo
nos olhos daqueles que dizem me
amar.
Bebo o amor.
A! O amor que há muito me deixou
mas que ainda hoje me tortura!
Bebo a paixão!
Bebo a paixão, fogo que
transformou em cinzas a porta do
meu coração e, a seguir, me
abandonou.
Bebo!
Bebo!
Bebo, e de gole em gole, engulo o que
sou, me aceito.
Bêbado me compreendo e desfaço o
mal entendido que nunca me permitiu
me aceitar bêbado, e então bebo.
Não bebo pelo simples prazer de ficar
bêbado.
Bebo e bêbado compreendo melhor as
estórias que o silêncio da noite
costuma me contar.
Bebo para não ter que beber, estando
sóbrio, as lágrimas que caem dos
meus olhos quando sob a tortura da
saudade.
Bebo para não perceber a tristeza que
invade o meu coração na solidão da
madrugada.

I don’t drink for the simple pleasure of drinking;
I drink to ease my longing.
I drink to ease my longing when it grips me,
I drink to hold onto my smile when it threatens to
fade, and I drink to stifle the sob when
I feel like crying.
I don’t drink out of a need to
satisfy an addiction.
I drink seeking to understand the
explanations that explain nothing.
I drink.
I drink the evasions that do not
convince me.
I drink!
When drunk, I absorb more
easily the falsehoods I perceive
in the eyes of those who claim to
love me.
I drink love.
Ah! The love that left me long ago
but still tortures me today!
I drink passion!
I drink passion, the fire that
turned the door to
my heart to ashes and then
abandoned me.
I drink!
I drink, and sip by sip, I swallow who
I am; I accept myself.
Drunk, I understand myself and undo the
misunderstanding that never allowed me
to accept myself when drunk, and so I drink.
I don’t drink for the simple pleasure of getting
drunk.
I drink, and when drunk, I better understand the
stories that the silence of the night
usually tells me.
I drink so that, when sober, I won’t have to
drink the tears that fall from
my eyes when I’m under the torture of
longing.
I drink so that I won’t feel the sadness that
invades my heart in the solitude of
the early morning.
