A poeira
vermelha e quente, afogava os meus
pés descalços, que pisavam em seu corpo.
Sob o forte calor do cerrado, eu descia a rua
O sol escaldante queimava tudo, queimava,
inclusive, a pele de quem o desafiava.
O negrinho, no entanto, precisava trabalhar,
ele não podia esperar pela sombra.
Teimoso,
vestido em sua pele escura, eu
desafiava o sol gritando: "Olha o picolé!"
Aquele negrinho parecia não perceber que
os viventes só queriam fugir da fúria do sol.
O negrinho parecia não perceber que os
viventes não davam ouvidos aos seus gritos
e descia a rua gritando: "Olha o picolé!",
ele não se importar com a fúria do sol.
Sem a ameaça
da chuva, o sol era absoluto
e a poeira vermelha, em
seu eterno repouso,
odiava ser importunada pelos pés daquele
negrinho.
"Olha o picolé!", lá ia eu descendo a rua
e oferecendo o que tinha para vender.
Pouco me importava o calor do sol, ou
a fúria da poeira, eu precisava vender.
La ia eu, o negrinho, protegido por minha
pele escura, ignorando a violência do sol,
e indiferente à agonia da poeira, gritando:
"Olha o picolé!".

Look the popsicle!
The hot, red dust choked my bare feet as they
trod on his body.
Under the intense heat of the Cerrado,
I ran down the street shouting:
- "Look, the popsicle!"
The passersby watched indifferently my call,
which, regardless of the prevailing heat,
came out strongly from my throat:
- "Look, the popsicle!"
Their dry mouths begged for a glass of fresh
water, perhaps ice-cold, but there, before
their eyes, was I, a little black boy, torturing
them with my cry:
- "Look, the popsicle!"
The scorching sun burned everything, burning,
including the skin of those who defied it.
The little black boy, however, needed to work;
he couldn't wait for the shade.
Stubbornly, dressed in his dark skin,
I defied the sun shouting:
- "Look, the popsicle!" .
That little black boy seemed oblivious to the
fact that the living only wanted to escape the
fury of the sun.
The little black boy seemed oblivious to the
fact that the living paid no heed to his cries,
and he went down the street shouting:
- "Look the popsicles!",
he didn't care about the fury of the sun.
Without the threat of rain, the sun was absolute,
and the red dust, in its eternal rest, hated being
disturbed by the feet of that little black boy.
"Look at the popsicles!", there I went, going
down the street, offering what I had to sell.
I cared little about the heat of the sun, or the
fury of the dust, I needed to sell.
There I went, the little black boy, protected by my
dark skin, ignoring the violence of the sun,
and indifferent to the agony of the dust, shouting:
- "Look at the popsicles!".
